Following are a number of profiles offered up by the MOATies in February 2005. The profiles evolved somwhat on the way through, so some are longer than others:
Marital status: Gloriously divorced
Children: 1 gorgeous little angel - Jamie, a precocious 9 year old girl
Occupation: Glamourous international spy and part-time cartoon character. In my spare time I make signs for operations at the Post Office
Age: 22. I'll be 23 in a bit. (What 9 year old?)
Vital stats: 6 feet tall, sort of a red-head, 44,24,36 (really! I mean it!)
Residence: Sunny, warm, 'Riviera of Canada', happen' hot spot - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Hobbies: getting drunk and kinky in the MOAT on Friday nights. All the rest of the time I crochet (really)
Smoke?: yes, but I quit all the time. Homegrown herbs in the planters don't count.
Music: Head-banger, with frequent forays into jazz.
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: Never. Infrequently. Sometimes. Occasionally. OK, often.
Ask me anything. I have no shame.

I copied this from Peri and changed the answers to reflect something not entirely unlike my reality:
Marital status: Gloriously divorced, and gloriously remarried.
Children: 2 teens. 17 (young lady) and 15 (young man)
Step-children: If you can call them that at 26 (female, engaged, 3 girls of her own) and 24 (male, married, 1 girl and 1 step son)
Grandkids: Yep, as you see, I have 5. I say I have 6, though. The three girls are 7, 4, and 1. They have a half-brother who is 8, and I count him too, even though he doesn't live with them. The other guy is 5 (I think) and the girl is 1.
Occupation: Computer programmer *yawn*
Age: 40-ish. I think 40 on the button. I'd have to think about it.
Vital stats: 5'8", topping the scales at a much too high 200 lbs
Residence: Kentucky. Northern Kentucky to be more precise - not far from Cincinnati, OH.
Hobbies: Uh... some crafts, drawing, listening to local bands.
Smoke?: The occasional fine cigar. Would you believe I've never smoked weed?
Music: Rock, singer / songwriter, blues, Americana
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: Not since the divorce, pretty much.
Depressed: On meds, but occasionally slip back into the abbyss. Usually reveals itself by my display of lack of self esteem.
Born: Tacoma, WA.
Grew up: Hampton, VA and N. Ky.
Geeky: Enough to get kicked out of the cool club, but I don't care for SciFi, so I get kicked out of the geek club, too.
RL Friends: Used to, but not anymore. Just one or two.

Grew up: TX
Geeky: Can be.
RL Friends: All of my RL friends have become cyber friends, as we're all so far apart. *sniffle* But *everybody* likes me. I'm very nice. But not too nice. Just the right amount of nice without being gushy.

Smoke: Used to, sort of. During my divorce, I got all the way up to a pack a month. I quit several years ago. Weed? Not really. In college, I tried it but didn't inhale. Really! It hurt my throat. However, my roomie smoked it all the time in our room, so I probably had a second hand high my entire freshman year..... which would explain the Fritos.

Auto: Saturn SL. I'm not a car person. Just give me something reliable with a radio, a/c and a heater and I'm happy. The Saturn is perfect for me. I'm in the car for less than an hour, total, every day, so why sink a ton of money into it?

Geeky: Naah. More like "different." (Thanks Leetie... I like that description!) I was a student librarian, but that was more of a "social dork" thing than a geek thing. I wasn't into SF enough for the geeks, although I got along well with a lot of them.
RL Friends: A few close friends, particularly my sister.
Miscellaneous facts: I had one, but I think I lost it.
Car: no car, no license, but am thinking that as I can't drive in a straight line, I might apply for a FLA license
Dessert: Panacotta is amazing... and I have recipe for it now... totally stunning. My Mum's Fudge Pudding is worth the sacrifice too.
Panties... mostly thongs. I have a favourite pair of jeans that I just can't wear thongs with, though so I have a few pairs of bikini panties.
Hat Size... can't wear them, my head's too big. Back in the days when I cycled, I had to get a men's 2XL helmet and that barely fit. I always had helmet hair... gggggrrrrrrr. Not That I'm Bitter, you understand. (From now on, that will be NTIB, because there are A LOT of things I find myself Not Bitter about. Really. Never lasts for long though.)
Best Compliment I Ever Got: most recently from a 4 yr old that I was looking after. She's going to get a great Christmas present.. and she won't even remember why!

Children: 2 - #1, Trinity Bonham (f) 17 mos & #2, TBD (f), still in the oven
Step-children: Nope. The only man I ever dated that had kids had one (the oldest) that was 2 yrs older than me… needless to say we aren’t still together….

Born: Ft. Worth, Texas
Grew up: North Dallas until ’93, Austin since then… I made a brief foray into Arkansas for college, but due to drama w/ my family and issues with the above-mentioned depression, that didn’t last.
I almost moved to China, then WA state, but neither of those ended up happening. So I got married instead. J
Geeky: Closet geek. It’s been a life-long affliction (I blame Frogger!) but most don’t see past my looks to find out – I ended up transferring outta programming in HS (True story: During our “introduction to C+” lesson the 2nd day of class, I couldn’t get my computer to do what it wanted to. I raised my hand to get the teachers attention and this is what followed:
Just Professor X! I can’t get mine to work right! What do I do?
Professor X (not even looking my way) Well, lets see, first you might want to press that button that turns on the computer there!
I promptly got up, went to the Principle, filed a complaint against the teacher, and got transferred out of the class. Oh yeah, did I mention I was the only female in the class?) which saved me from being branded a “Geek”, but the tendencies have always been there….
RL Friends: Used to… my phonebook probably rivaled Lee’s… that’s what happens when ya work in bars for 4 yrs. I had some pretty good ones that I kept up with until I had a kid. Basic lifestyle choices aside, something about them wanting to party when I had to stay home and take care of her just drove us apart. Sigh
Auto: 2003 Suzuki XL-7, champagne colored, just bought it in November… it’s the love of my life. Well, aside from my family. It hurt to get rid of Sandy (my lil’ red sporty car), but this one is working out nicely. She is as yet un-named. We don’t know each other well enough yet.
Other Pertinent Info: I’m told I purrrrrr if you scratch my back just right. ;)
MOATies met: None, yet. *Ditto for me*
Favorite dessert: Chocolate. I'm currently on a Vanilla Hagen Daaz kick, but that could be due to the fact that I'm pregnant. Umm... I also have a penchant for Brulee. I blame that on my husband!
Panties: thongs ... I don't even own the other kind. *I would say Ditto to this one too, alas, Thongs and Pregnancy don't mix. It was a sad day when I had to change....*
Size foot: 10m pre-pregnancy, currently 11 *sob*
Compliment(s) I receive most often: Usually something to do with my Smile... or my eyes. *shrug*

Marital status: Eh, A little early for that yet
Children: nope
Age: 18 *he said nonchalantly*
Vitals: last time I checked: 1854.2 mm, about 77,110 grams
Occupation: student
Residence: Central New York
Hobbies: eating, drinking chocolate milk, reading, sleeping, forays into the wilderness, music listening, MOATing
Smoke: Heck no
Drink: like I said, chocolate milk. also Hawaiian Punch and Pink Lemonade are up there on the list (soda not so much anymore). Notice total lack of alcoholic beverages (and it's not just because I'm underage).
Music: right now, all my music is on shuffle mode *changes song from Billy Joel*, so it's Steve Miller with 'Fly Like an Eagle'. I like just about everything except Kenny G and modern rap.
Grouchy, bitchy, bitter? Only when the need arises
Depressed? nah, never was my thing. Kind of goes against my moniker, but I just can't stay sad, cause I don't let things get to me.
Born and raised: Born near Denver, CO and then we up and moved to Rhode Island, but mostly raised here in NY
Geeky: Well, I'm definitely the most technologically inclined person of my immediate family. The only game I play is Halo (1 & 2), and those are also the only games I have for X-box. And, of course, gotta love the laptop. 'Dork' is a more typical attribute.
Friends: *looks up definition* Well, using def. 2, I have hundreds. And we'll leave it at that.
other pertinent information: I've got different colored eyes (one brown, one hazel), and my birthday is 8/6/86, and my initials are PHD (my parents are soooo hilarious).
Auto: blue '94 chevrolet on it's last legs, but with a nice CD player and a Ken (Yes, Barbie's Ken) head on the antenna.
Also, occupation extension: Studying to be a geologist. I was really close to having my blog name be a rock type, but then saw Zaphod posting and remembered that H2G2 would be more widely recognized.
(PS: It would have been 'lazurite')

Marital status: Married 34+ years and hoping for many, many more.
Children: no, but nieces and nephews
Occupation: I'm semi-retired from selling secondhand detective fiction, via sales lists and online. I still turn out the occasional list.
Age: 56
Vital stats: 6'1", 175 pounds (at the moment; I was down to 170 for a while but this is as thin as I've been in over 30 years - until this diet I've been in the 190 range)
Residence: Brooklyn, NY; Bay Ridge to be exact (or Fort Hamilton if you prefer)
Hobbies: Reading, travel, baseball, music, the MOAT.
Smoke?: I smoked through my teen years but not a lot and I quit in my early 20s. Grass? At times but not in recent years.
Music: mostly geezer music -- oldies, preferably 1955- early 1970s, with occasional additions. Also some country, lots of blues, some classical, zydeco, etc. I have ecletic taste but mostly listen to the oldies.
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: Oh, I can be, believe me. (What Rita said can stand too, but much less recently I hope.)
Depressed: Nope, though I have been at times in the past.
Born: New York, NY - Doctor's Hospital.
Grew up: We lived in Queens until age 10, Brooklyn ever since.
Geeky: Not usually, though I have some geeky interests.
RL Friends: Jackie is first and foremost my best friend and has been for a long time. My last best friend died of cancer two years ago at 52. I have a lot of friends in the mystery field - fans, readers, dealers, authors - and have belonged to one group for more than 25 years.
That was fun.

Born and Raised: Born raised in Jesup, GA, at age 18 swore I would never return and moved to Augusta, GA- Atlanta- Florida- SC- Alabama- AZ, and guess what, I'm back living in the old hometown after 30 yrs
Geeky: Well I was amember of an informal chess club in high school, but since personal computers were still science fiction then, I guess not, but my days off from work are usually spent trying to get friends computers to work better.

Marital status: Divorced but ”DeFacto” remarried (that is, living in sin with the one woman for long enough that you are treated as being in fact married for legal purposes), 11 years with the Honey. Never got around to actually marrying because of complications with the Catholics about being a divorcee. They don’t mind us living in sin provided we bring the kids up as Catholics, but getting married is a whole different matter.
Children: Three. #1 son was inherited with the Honey, age 18 in June, #2 son, age 10 in September, and #3 son age 8 in June. Wonderful boys. Easy to manage, just throw them a tub of raw meat once a day and apply bandages to the larger scrapes arising from wrestling matches.
(De Facto) Step-children: one, #1 son.
Pets: One cat, aged about 16 but still frisky at times. Three goldfish.
Grandkids: Better not be if #1 son knows what’s good for him!
Occupation: Contract Project Manager in IT. I own and operate my own small contracting company running a few people around the place, working mostly to the Federal Government.
Age: 48 last December. Still have all my own teeth.
Vital stats: 6’3” if I stand up straight. Less most of the time (I get nagged about that a lot). 170 or so pounds, not an ounce of fat on me due to what is apparently a highly effective symbiotic relationship with a bunch of gut parasites, or a low metabolic rate, or something.
Residence: Canberra, Australia. The nation’s capital. Nice place, about 2000 feet up in tablelands about 60 miles from the coast. Just a tad too hot in summer and a tad too cool in winter for my taste, but quite bearable by comparison to what you lot put up with.
Hobbies: Raising children mostly. Some light reading, sailing when I get a chance, which isn’t often since the kids, the odd bit of hobby electronics, zapping aliens in Doom 3 when I can pry the kids off the computer, and of course blogging.
Smoke: ”I am a smoker, I just choose not to smoke today!” Dreadful habit I’ve been battling with for years, and constantly giving up and backsliding. Am currently on giving up jag, with a tad more success this time as the result of using patches AND lozenges, and beating my head against a wall periodically. Was gob-smacked to discover #1 son smokes when he drinks, particularly as he constantly complains about the smell of smoke at other times. Kicking his a$$ around the house about it has helped with my own attempts to give up.
Drink: Mostly dry white whines. The occasional beer on a hot day, or if I’m at a pub. Have largely given up spirits as the result of the after effects of a somewhat wild youth, but still have the odd margarita with a Mexican dinner, or a brandy and orange juice if there is nothing else.
Music: Eclectic tastes. Nora Jones was the most recent foray, but have Santana, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, and Sting loaded in the car CD player. Also like Shaun Mullins, Elton John, Jim Croche, most 70’s music. CANNOT abide rap music, which is of course all the #1 son plays.
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: Grouchy from time to time, never bitchy, and have felt bitter only a couple of times, but that was long enough ago that I’m over it.
Depressed: Not often, comes and goes a bit with cumulative stress levels, rarely badly, never for more than a few days. Much prefer giggling, and am generally an up and more or less bouncy person.
Grew up: Was born American in Pennsylvania, near Washington DC. Father was American, mum was Australian, naturalised as American just before I was born. Four sisters, one older, three younger. Dad retired when I was just 9, and we bought a big camper/Winnebago type thing. We travelled all around the US and Mexico, then put it on a boat to tour around England and Europe, then back on the boat to Australia. Turned 10 just before we landed in Australia.
The plan was to tour Australia, then back on a boat to the US, but we were forced to come to Canberra to register the left-hand-drive vehicle, and liked the place and stayed. Grew up in Canberra and have lived here ever since, apart from a couple of shortish sojourns to Sydney and Brisbane.
Geeky: I started in computing as a trainee computer operator in 1975, and have been working in IT ever since, so I suppose I’d have to be. Worked as a programmer, then support analyst, business analyst, operations manager and finally project manager. Love the industry and computer wrangling, although my technical skills have slipped somewhat over the last five years or so.
RL Friends: Modest number, just about all from school days, but didn’t get to see them much since the kids were born and have drifted apart over the last 10 years or so. Had a reunion about a year ago and was pleased to see that I appear to be travelling rather better than my cohorts, although the odd grey hair is sneaking in there these days.
Auto: My “baby”, the one indulgence I allow myself. Ford Fairlane Ghia. Electric everything, large tricked up six cylinder with 5 speed auto gearbox, a lovely car to drive and heaps of room for the kids when we travel. Has spoilt me for anything else, although it’s getting a tad long in the tooth now (about 5 five years old).
Other Pertinent Info: My sign is “Slippery When Wet”, and am prone to gursting.

Marital status: Separated for 3 years.
Children: One. Daughter. Miracle angel. After tests, drugs, operations, many visits to fertility clinic, we were told we had "no chance" of having children. 7 years later....surprise!! What a joy she's been every day since she was conceived. She is 6 now.
Pets: Two cats (Oliver & Quinton). One fish.
Occupation: Accounting
Age: 37...still
Vital stats: 5 ft 2 inches.
Residence: Manitoba, Canada
Hobbies: Puzzles, reading, blogging, playing with daughter.
Smoke: Pack a day for 12 years. Quit when I started trying to get pregnant. Never tried anything other than tobacco.
Drink: Used to. Loved it. A little too much. Nothing alcoholic for 18 years and counting.
Music: Everything except rap.
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: Nope. Not really in my nature. I get really mad and then I'm completely over it about 5 minutes later!
Depressed: Not any more. Medication is a wonderful thing.
Grew up: Manitoba, Canada
Geeky: Not really
RL Friends: A few really good friends. (Feel fortunate to be able to count Peri as one of them).
Auto: Neon. Twice someone has attempted to steal it. First time the neighbor scared them off and this time I don't know what happened but the lock was completely gone and the handle all vandalised but the car was still there. Thank goodness. Still waiting for parts to come in before it can be fixed. I have to open it from the passenger side right now. What a pain!

Age: 52 and one-half (age has never bothered me)

Born: Hopewell, Virginia. According to my dad, it's the armpit of the state.

Grew up: TX
Geeky: Can be.

Residence: St. Louis, MO.
Hobbies: Reading, writing, blogging, bike riding, roller blading, scuba diving, camping, cooking. Major Cardinal and Rams fan....sort of a Blues Hocky fan. That doesn't kick in until football season is over, and ... you know, this year...well, 'nuff said.

Geeky: Family IT person, the poor dears. I know enough to be really dangerous. D&D, I think that came out while I was busy having babies, etc. Not into video games.
RL Friends: Several, including my sisters. I have noticed in the last several years, my circle of friends has shrunk. It kind of coincided with my traveling with work, and then going back to school. Hmmm, gonna hafta work on that.
Auto: Saturn SL. I'm not a car person. Just give me something reliable with a radio, a/c and a heater and I'm happy. The Saturn is perfect for me. I'm in the car for less than an hour, total, every day, so why sink a ton of money into it?

Depressed: Definitely not usually. A little rough in my youth and on occasion, but in general I'm happy to the point of being annoying.
Born: Ada, Ok
Grew up: Nowata, Ok
Geeky: Some what, but more so "different", I was a big jock, so geeky was never a problem, although I was not typical jock material.
RL Friends: A lot. I make friends really easily, but I haven't had any time, because of home remodeling, old house fixed up and sold, and now with the new house.
I filled this out right after reading BrianB's, curious to see how many posts there have been since.
My guess- 11 (or otherwise known as eleventy)

Born: Christchurch, NZ

We were watching Disney's Sleeping Beauty, who fell asleep after playing with an enchanted spinning wheel on her 16th birthday. 4yo looks at me and says "16!! Wow, that's even older than you!!" She's going to get a great Christmas present.. and she won't even remember why!

Marital status: Married – Umm… Gloriously or ungloriously depends on the day and my mood and whether he’s done anything that day to piss me off. J
Children: 2 - #1, Trinity Bonham (f) 17 mos & #2, TBD (f), still in the oven
Step-children: Nope. The only man I ever dated that had kids had one (the oldest) that was 2 yrs older than me… needless to say we aren’t still together….
Pets: Fish. Lots of ‘em. We were obsessed before kid #1…. And dreams of an Ibizan hound and a Great Dane. – still about 3 yrs away on getting’ ‘em tho..
Grandkids: HA!! I’ll go with the Fish & Brian’s answer on this one….
Occupation: Paralegal by training, Assistant Director of Development by Paycheck… waiting to stop poppin’ out kids to go to Law School.
Age: 23 on the button, although I’ll be 24 in July!!! (PS Sly- are you my mom??? My hubby is 31… I laughed when I read your post….)
Vital stats: 5'10", Pre-pregnancy I was 155-160 (depending on the time of the month) or a Size 8/9 (however you want to look at it) and that’s all I’m saying!.
Residence: Austin, Texas, Live Music Capital of the World and Home of Late Night Animal Sex. (Although I think its stifling to say the Animal Sex must be limited to Late Night!!!!)
Hobbies: Karaoke Music, Karaoke, Movies/TV, Football/Hockey/Basketball, Piano, Reading, Dave Barry Blog (Duh.), cooking, bartending/barpatronizing, Men, Dancing, gardening, Art, Daydreaming, Traveling, pondering the meaning of life, being a mommy & playin’ w/ my kiddo.. umm… do I have to list them all???
Smoke: Used to. Recently quit (for real this time!)
Drink: HA!!! BC (Before Children) I loved Martinis, Margaritas, Malibu (Any rum, really!) Vodka any way but bloody and of course, CHAMPAGNE (*sigh* … I miss that the most!) Now my drinking is limited to a glass or 2 of Red w/ the hubby at dinner oh, every blue moon or so, or a glass of Pinot Grigio w/ a bubble bath. I have been known to drink beer a) On the Lake b) W/ Mexican food or 3) when we go sample the “Live Music” that is so abundant here….
Music: All of the above? It doesn’t get any better than Bruce Robison or U2, I prefer Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban to unwind, 80’s/early 90’s or Hip-hop those times when I’m getting ready to go out… the only thing I DON’T like is Metal (although I have been known to listen to SOME on occasion)
Grouchy? Bitchy? Bitter?: When I don’t want to get up, I’m pregnant – what do you think? And Nope – no reason to be.
Depressed: Ha ha ha!!! You had to go THERE… chronically, but meds mess me up, my shrink gave me more issues than I had to begin with, the only things that “work” are cigs or alcohol… so I usually just “Deal With It” … I’m a Cancer tho, so its part of life, and most people would label me “chronically happy” so I guess I do a good job of getting’ over it…. Beyond that, I’m not gonna say in such a public forum. Email me if you want to know.
Compliment(s) I receive most often: Usually something to do with my Smile... or my eyes. *shrug*
